Coming Home

In less than 10 days I will be moving to Kigali, Rwanda. Over the last month lots of people have been asking am I excited. So I have been pondering over this question and how I feel about the move. While I lived in Kampala, Uganda for 6 months on last year, I always felt like I was home. I always had a sense of connection to the people, the culture and the land – some of the food was a different story. Therefore, I really do not have much apprehension about going – only missing out on my nieces, nephews and godchildren growing up and me not being a part of it.
So I would have to describe my feelings about moving to the other side of the world with the words of John Legend’s song “Coming Home,” more specifically the chorus.
“It may be long to get me there. It feels like I’ve been everywhere but someday I’ll be coming home. Round and round the world will spin. Oh, the circle never ends. So you know that I’ll be coming home.”
These words best describe my feelings about moving to Africa and coming back to America when it is time.
